Computing
Learning Through Computing at Greenleas
At Greenleas, we prepare our learners for life in an increasingly digital world by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to use technology confidently, creatively, responsibly and safely. Computing and digital technology are central to modern communication, learning and future employment, and our curriculum ensures pupils develop the skills needed to participate successfully in an ever-changing technological society.
Through our Computing curriculum, pupils learn to become digitally literate users of technology, computational thinkers and creative problem-solvers. We recognise that technology can enhance collaboration, communication, creativity and inclusion for all learners. We also teach children to use technology safely, respectfully, ethically and critically, understanding both the opportunities and risks presented by online environments, digital media and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
Using Purple Mash and a range of additional digital resources, pupils revisit and build upon key knowledge and skills throughout their time at Greenleas through a progressive mixed-age curriculum. Our mixed-age Computing curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure progression in knowledge and skills through revisiting key concepts in different contexts across Cycle A and Cycle B planning. Computing supports creativity, independence and cross-curricular learning, enabling children to apply their skills meaningfully across the wider curriculum.
Technology is embedded throughout our school and plays an important role in pupils’ learning and daily lives. Therefore, we aim to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. We recognise that education is the most effective way to support children in understanding how to navigate the digital world safely, make informed choices and develop healthy online behaviours.
Our Computing curriculum focuses on the progression of skills within digital literacy, computer science and information technology to ensure that children become confident and competent users of technology. These areas are continually revisited through a range of meaningful learning opportunities so that knowledge is embedded and skills are successfully developed over time. We aim for all pupils to leave Greenleas equipped with the skills needed to communicate, collaborate, create and problem-solve effectively in a rapidly changing digital world.

Through our home-school links and communication channels, parents are kept informed about relevant online safety matters, policies and agreements, and know who to contact at school if they have concerns.
Policies and procedures which ensure confidential information is stored and managed securely.
An online safety curriculum that is threaded throughout all areas of school life and embedded within the wider curriculum.
